Principal's Corner

August 24, 2022

Dear Sidney Glen Families,

My name is Shawn Cook I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Sidney Glen. I have been fortunate to have served in many education roles, ranging from classroom teacher to school interventionist, district office program manager and, most recently, building principal. Through each of these roles, my mission has been to learn and grow and to serve all students with excellence.

I believe that our students deserve our very best and that a great education is one of the greatest gifts we can give to the next generation. I believe that a great education happens when a school is aligned with strong systems in place, a school culture that prioritizes relationships and high expectations for all students, and exceptional teaching and learning. My role as principal is to lead and guide the implementation of this work by aligning our vision and practices, ensuring that relationships are foundational in all that we do, and making certain that our thinking about our students and work moves us to greater growth each day.

These last years have challenged each of us in many ways. As adults, we have experienced new and difficult situations. Our team has not forgotten that our students have also been through unprecedented times and challenge. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of each and every student and to provide them the great education they deserve.

In the coming days, I will be sharing with staff and our community what I call our Sidney Glen School Pillars. These include much of what I’ve shared here with you. Our Pillars help to focus and guide our work on the common practices that have the greatest impact. One of those Pillars is Family and Community Partnership. This is a statement to our values and hope that we can truly impact and give back to the community around us.

I have big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Principal Shdo, but we have a terrific foundation to continue building upon. I look forward to partnering with you in the days to come. In fact, our first opportunity to do so is coming up soon! Please join us on September 1st from 5:30-6:30 for our Sidney Glen Open House. I cannot wait to get started supporting our students as we embark upon this important work together.
